Pre-infanticide Peptalks

Pre-infanticide peptalks

It's fairly late at night when Johny receives a call from the reception below - apparently a young woman by name of Janet Bradders is asking to come up. Normally they wouldn't disturb him this late, but she is on his authorized guest list, hence the call.
Marcus approves sending her up. She will be directed to the main living room, where Johny is watching a trid program. It appears to be a sporting event, Gridiron football. The Superbowl from this year; albeit nearly 2 months later to watching it.

Janie hands her coat to Marcus as she arrives, then follows his directions and heads into the living room. "Evenin'," she greets Johny.

«OOC» Janie says, "Something's bothering her. Badly enough that you can spot it - if barely - despite her control. And Janie is /hard/ to rattle."
Johny sips his beer, eyeing Janie casually. "come on, sit down, have a beer. Marcus! A new round of beers and bring out some of those little bacony potato things."
Janie nods and sits down, relaxing slightly as she takes the proferred beer and sips.
Johny gestures. "The Bills vs the Giants. Bills are up by 14, but the Giants are starting to pick up steam."
Janie nods again, only half listening.

«Auto-Judge[]» Janie (#4136) rolls Willpower for "Dammit, Janie, you came here to talk to him, now don't chicken out.":

Eventually - and rather abruptly - she takes a deep breath and blurts it out. "Weeko's kids were born last weekend."
Johny nods to Janie. "I know." he says simply, looking over to Janie. "Was that whats bothering you, Weeko? Her children?"
Janie shakes her head, then nods. "How much did Samuel brief ye on Weeko's situation?"
"Want to know the Truth, Blair?" He asks, raising an eyebrow as he tilts his beer back.
"… If ye think I c'n handle it," Janie replies, the quirky grin on her face at least as much a product of nerves as it is of genuine humor.
He looks over at her, a slight grin. "I am Samuel." Just as simple as that. He looks back to the trid then as Joe Michigan throws a hail-mary pass. He's up on his feet. "HOLY SWEET JESUS! RUN YOU LITTLE BASTARD RUN!" He exhorts the running back.

Janie just stares for a moment, then Looks again, this time with her astral sight.

Well, he -is- genuinely excited. The game is awesome!

Janie blinks several times at the unexpectedly clear read. "… Remind me t'be incredulous an'ask ye what happened some other time," she finally murmurs. "Do ye remember th'bargain Mountainshadow made with me? Th'spell he taught me?"
"I do." He says simply, coming to sit back down. "And you can ask me about it later, I don't neccessarilly agree to tell you jack or shit."
"Fair enough," Janie replies. "Part o'th'price was that I'd check on Weeko's kids once they were born, t'make sure they're not Tainted - an' if they are, t'…" She swallows, then forces herself to continue. "t'do what must be done."
Johny eyes the woman now. "Right. I assume you've either checked them.. or liquidated them." Just like that, as simple as saying 'liquidate'. Like children are simply numbers on a page.
Janie manages not to flinch at the phrase. "Not yet. I'm goin' t'check up on them today. I…" Another deep breath. "I wasn't sure I could trust myself t'go through with it yet."

Johny nods to Janie. "If you cannot, I will. And then I will liquidate anyone who knows about the nature of the situation. I trust however, you will handle the situation professionally as the situation demands. frankly, I think the whole issue is overblown."

Janie actually glares. "I know ye will. That's one o'th'reasons I wanted t'ask ye t'come with me when I go there. Because ye're th'one person I'd trust t'not only spot me if I got cold feet at th'last second an'decided t'lie about it, but t'take over if I do. I'm aware o'th'stakes we're playin' f'r an' what th'price'll be if we screw up. That doesn't change th'fact that f'r th'past six months there hasn't been more than three hours straight that I haven't at least once thought that I might be required t'shoot three infants in their beds."

She holds up one clenched fist. It's trembling. "I missed a shot during shootin' practice this mornin'," she admits.

Johny shrugs. "I'd not waste a bullet." he says simply. "Their necks are susceptible to snapping." If one was trained in psychology or understanding of the methods, one might understand that by speaking in such fashions, he channels her -fear- in to -anger-, specifically focused on him. Because he can take it.

It's working, too - for a moment there it looks as if Janie is seriously considering strangling him where he stands, but then her self-control reasserts itself. She's had a /lot/ more experience getting a grip on her anger than on fears like this. So she just stands there, nearly vibrating with rage while she takes deep breaths to steady herself.

«Auto-Judge[]» Janie (#4136) rolls Intelligence vs TN 5 for "No psych skill, but it is a fairly obvious tactic… /if/ you have a clear enough mind to think straight about it.":

Janie keeps glaring at Johny while her breathing gradually slows and the rage in her eyes gives way to comprehension. "… Thanks. I needed that, I think," she eventually murmurs as she sits back down.

Johny sips his beer casually. "Anger focuses emotion, and when the emotion subsides, the focus remains. You're all over the place, Blair. How's things with May?"
"She's doin' better, lately," Janie replies. "We're workin' on a trap that'll hopefully get Wings out o'our misery. Apart from that, I'm still doin' research — although it'd probably be easier t'do if I could look f'r information on th'Well o'Souls without lettin' people know that I know th'place exists."
She turns to look Johny in the eye. "Anyone who'd know anythin' relevant about it would know enough t'start wonderin' how I found out about it in th'first place." She sighs. "So it's a lot o'flounderin' in th'dark an'pretendin' I didn't sneak a peek from under th'blindfold."

"That is how it goes." Says Samuel as he sits back down on the couch. He takes another pull off the beer, looking up at Janie. "So. home life is good. Sex is good. Beer is good. Sounds like you're having a great time in life."
"Aside from contemplatin' infanticide, that is," Janie quips - but there's actually humor in the comment, dark as it is.
Johny smirks. "Sit down. Watch the game. Have sex with me. Pick two, discard one, take your pick."
Janie chuckles, sits down, sips her beer, and turns her attention to the game.
Johny grins then, watching as the Quarterback throws a deep pass. "And here I was hoping you'd suddenly realize how much you missed male-female coitial relations." He says, a trace of amusement in his voice. "Everyone on this team gets fucked but me, which I suppose, in its way, means I am getting fucked, so it's all good."

Janie grins. "All due respect, but my sex life's none o'y'r business until an'unless I start datin' a Horrorspawn or somethin'… Sir," she replies.
"I dunno." He says, sipping his beer. "May sort of broadcasts. Ain't my fault if I can pick it up in High-Def."

Janie chuckles again, then sighs. "… I think I'm ready. About as ready as I'll get, at least. Time t'get things over with."

Johny glances over at Janie then. "Good luck, kiddo. If you ever decide to swing back to hitting for the home team, you give me a call." He says, making 'gun shootey hands' at her, a sarcastic grin on his lips.

"Do me a favor?" Janie asks as she gets up. "Call me again in about an hour. I'll have more luck pushin' myself through this if I know there's a test afterward."

Johny looks to Janie. "Sure. I'll call you in an hour Janie. But I know, no matter what? It will come out okay."

Janie nods. "I hope so," she replies, then turns and heads out the door, collecting her duster from Marcus as she leaves.
